Jurassic World Rebirth: Family vs Dinosaurs in a Tropical Hellscape

Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the upcoming summer tentpole. The dino-destry film will enter theaters for a Fourth of July blitz this summer, hitting on July 2, 2025. The fourth entry in the Jurassic World series and seventh overall film in the Jurassic Park franchise, Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in an action-adventure yarn that sees the pair team up for a top-secret mission deep in the heart of the Amazon. Their mission: locate the remnants of a long-lost Jurassic Park research base and steal dinosaur DNA to help manufacture a life-saving drug. But when their mission collides with the vacation of a small boating family, this crew must team up with their rivals to survive a secret island crawling with genetically engineered beasts.

Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by Gareth Edwards, who previously took the helm for 2014’s Godzilla, and written by David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World (1997). Rebirth arrives five years after the events of the 2022 Jurassic World Dominion, which concluded the third Jurassic World trilogy. Universal’s final trailer shows a lot of the same footage as the first trailer, which debuted in February, but it includes a few new lines of dialogue that expand on Rebirth’s central premise.

Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zora Bennett, is a stealth operative hired to lead an extraction team into the humid jungle to locate the source of a genetic code that could be the key to this miraculous new drug. The map that they’ve been given leads them to a boating family in the middle of their own Amazon vacation, which is cut short when the ship they’re on gets attacked by a massive underwater dinosaur. The survivors land on a long-abandoned island, which is revealed to be the site of an old Jurassic Park research center and breeding grounds for the “worst of the worst” dinosaurs, such as the raptors and a mysterious water beast known as the mosasaur.

Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacano, Audrina Miranda, and Bechir Sylvain, who were all previously announced for the project, as well as Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge, who also appear in undisclosed roles. Some of the returning talent from the Jurassic Park films have either been recast or are reprising roles for the new movie.

Scarlett Johansson Plays a Stealth Ops Veteran in Jurassic World Rebirth

Scarlett Johansson plays the main protagonist, Zora Bennett, a stealth and extraction ops veteran recruited to lead a secret team into the Amazon to recover a specific piece of DNA that’s key to a life-saving drug being produced by a mysterious pharmaceutical company. Johansson’s role was among the first to be cast in the film when she was attached back in March 2022. No particular character connection to the previous Jurassic World movies was disclosed.

The trailer reveals that the last three largest land, air, and sea dinosaurs have taken up residence in a single tropical biosphere. These animals are capable of withstanding longer periods of time outside of their ancestral biospheres, which is important because the three beasts each carry the source of a genetic code key to a brand-new life-saving drug being mass-produced.

Jurassic World Rebirth Synopsis

Jurassic World Rebirth follows an elite team of extraction operatives led by a woman named Zora Bennett as she and her team are dispatched to the heart of the Amazon on a top-secret mission to recover that precious genetic code. Zora’s team is led in the Amazon jungle by a reptilian paleontologist named Henry Loomis, while a pharmaceutical company representative named Martin Krebs also joins the extraction team to keep an eye on their progress. Krebs is portrayed by Rupert Friend. The team takes off on their helicopter extraction into the jungle, but the footage is quickly intercut with that of a family’s river excursion on a large private boat.
