Pop Star or Prophet? Justin Bieber’s Quiet Reflection Through DMX
Justin Bieber’s new Instagram post has caused quite a stir among fans and followers because it does not take drugs for granted, sobriety, or even freedom of choice.
On Sunday, Bieber re-posted a one-minute video without any comment that has not gone unnoticed by fans. In the video, DMX said no to a life of sobriety in a question by a woman called Iyanla Vanzant.
DMX appeared in an episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life in 2013. In this session, Vanzant asked if he wanted to live “as a clean man.” The rapper replied by asking, “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” When Vanzant explained that “God is not into recreational activities” and sobriety would make DMX “a clear, pure vessel for the voice of God,” the rapper made it clear that he had no problem with God, saying: “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God.”
The video, originally from Gassy’s page, a dispensary in Los Angeles (California), shows a big, charismatic rapper inside a car. He later died from a drug overdose, which caused more questions and interpretations of what Bieber wanted to show with the video. He did not post a message.
Bieber has always been open about his faith and the importance of religion in his life. Over the past decade, he has spoken candidly about his Christian beliefs and has maintained a close friendship with Churchome pastor Judah Smith.
The Instagram post comes as Bieber, who has a strong spiritual side, is in the process of shifting his public image as he goes from teen sensation to mature artist, husband, and now, father.
The couple’s first child, Jack Blues Bieber, was born almost a year ago. Per his representatives, fatherhood has been a significant turning point in the singer’s life and his priorities. While Bieber’s image has concerned fans recently after a few controversial social media posts in which the singer was seen with a bong and smoking, his team has made it clear that there is no truth to the rumors that he is struggling with substance abuse.
In February, Bieber’s rep told TMZ that “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is not true.” The rep added, “Justin is in one of the best places in his life; he’s focused on his family, his new music, and eliminating people and business relationships that are not serving him.”
It is also worth mentioning that recreational marijuana is legal in California, where Bieber resides. The images of the singer with bongs on his Instagram might raise some eyebrows, but it does not mean that he is doing something illegal. Rather, it is a more complex conversation that many celebrities have over personal choices, legislation, and public image.
New album and tour rumors
Bieber’s Instagram post of the DMX interview comes on the back of a successful week for Bieber, who released his seventh studio album, Swag, on July 11 to critical acclaim. The album is part vulnerable diary, part a look in the mirror with a bit of humor thrown in. As well as addressing his personal evolution, marriage, and parenthood, Bieber’s new album, which boasts pop, R&B, and hip hop elements, includes comedic interludes with internet personality Druski.
These snippets, a play on real-life therapy, see Bieber candidly (sometimes not so candidly) analyzing his life, emotions, and just how heavy fame can feel.
The new album, which many see as an emotional release, includes numerous songs about Bieber’s past difficulties and his love for his wife and daughter. As well as writing about his past demons and finding peace in his family life, the Canadian star has promised more music.
He has announced a collaboration with country music singer Morgan Wallen, and his tour with Taylor Swift is expected to kick off in August.
Fans are already speculating that Bieber could be going on tour in Australia soon. There have been tour rumors, but the singer and Frontier Touring have not confirmed the date or location.
Frontier Touring did say to Rolling Stone that they had “no information” on the rumors that Bieber would tour Australia. Since Justin has previously had to cancel the second half of his Justice World Tour in 2022 due to health problems, fans are unsure if he will take to the stage in 2023.
Fans are crossing their fingers that Bieber will soon start touring as his recent album, Swag, has been doing well. For the time being, Bieber’s new album is currently available, and fans can stream their favorite tracks from it while they wait for more music, announcements, and news about tours.
