Port Orford Hosts Port Goreford Immersive Game Event

This Halloween season, the coastal town of Port Orford, Oregon, will once again embrace its alter ego, 'Port Goreford', as the highly anticipated Battle Rock Kraken Treasure Hunt returns from October 24 to 31. The immersive game event invites participants to navigate a community-wide treasure hunt, explore local businesses, and compete for prizes totaling over $3,000.

A Tradition Returns After a Successful Debut

Following the strong response to its inaugural run last year, which saw about 500 port orford visitors at the Visitor Center and an estimated 3,000 kraken treasure coins circulated, the port orford treasure hunt has quickly become a cherished community event. Organizers originally launched the event to support local businesses during the quieter fall season, but the port goreford event has now established itself as a seasonal highlight.

Immersive Play Inspired by Maritime Lore

The event is structured around an imaginative legend in which a mythical Kraken once sank a schooner in the 1800s, scattering treasure along the south coast oregon. Participants become heroes in this narrative, racing against time to recover lost coins before Halloween night to prevent the fearsome creature’s return. The storyline lends a spirited twist reminiscent of both cosplay and live-action role-playing, all set in the unique context of Port Orford's maritime history and stormy coastal backdrop.

How the Battle Rock Kraken Treasure Hunt Works

Around 30 local establishments will take part in the community treasure hunt, each represented on an official treasure map. Treasure maps are available at the Port Orford Visitor Center at Battle Rock Wayside Park and select participating businesses—each easy to spot thanks to a Kraken tentacle in the window. Port orford visitors can collect one kraken treasure coin per person per day at each business, without any purchase required. For added adventure, daily riddles posted on the Discover Port Orford Facebook page offer opportunities to earn bonus coins.

Players must sign and deliver coins to the Kraken’s Chest at the Visitor Center, open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Collecting and returning three coins earns a drawstring sport pack, while all returned coins serve as entries for prize drawings showcased on Halloween night.

Prizes and Special Local Business Support

The port goreford event features more than $3,000 in prizes provided by area businesses, reinforcing local business support. Prizes include overnight accommodations at Port Orford vacation rentals, wildlife excursions with South Coast Tours, a Jerry's Rogue Jets river tour, wellness experiences, gift certificates, handcrafted art, and much more.

Range of Halloween Festivities Planned

In addition to the treasure hunt, the event week features a full slate of Halloween festivities:

• In-store scavenger hunt at Nicki's Knick-Knacks on October 27
• Dragonfly Nursery Halloween Party on October 30
• Costume party and dance at the Senior Center featuring The Love Mussels on October 30

On Halloween day, festivities include the Shoreline Inn & Bistro's second annual Boo Bash (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.), Black Beard's Plunder hosted by Port Orford Fishwives (5 to 7 p.m. at the Port of Port Orford), and a costume contest with live music at Mr. Ed's starting at 7 p.m.
